Inflation

Today, Mulder put the Christmas stuff up in the attic.  While he was there, he decided to take down some old junk. (Just what I wanted on a Sunday! ACK!)  I was sorting through an box of old papers that were my mothers and found the receipt from when she had my sister.  She was in the hospital for TEN DAYS!!! after a normal birth!  I know, right!  The charge for the hospital, the delivery, the nursery was ... wait for it ...

$76.50

This was 1934.  My mother and her husband had made a $5.00 deposit so they only had to pay $71.50 to bring my sister home.

When my son's girlfriend delivers this March, the OB alone is $8,000.00.  Haven't found out what the hospital is going to charge.  The mind boggles.

$8,000 for the OBalone... WOW!

I had sinus surgery back in June... I was shocked at the cost of that event. The ENT's charges were right at $20,000... the surgery center charged right at $20,000...

Unbelievable...

Meanwhile, there are rumors circulating at work that our health insurance may be dropped as a benefit... the cost is accelerating so much.

Affordable Care Act, my butt!!

Happy New Year to you!! :o)

OH. MY. GAWD.!!!!!!!

UNbelievable?!?!?!? And yet, at that time, that was expensive.

Today, it costs $95.00 to get your teeth cleaned!!!

Oy...have times changed, hu?

Isn't that interesting! I remember my parents telling me how much things were back then and being amazed. Of course, to them it was a lot of money. $5 bought a lot of groceries when they were first married!!

After the birth of my first son in 1971 I was in hospital for 10 days too, it was the norm then. The cost was £0 and still would be today, thanks to our NHS. :)

I am not surprised at the $8,000 cost.. it's sad and ridiculous that this is acceptable. The hospital bill ought to be a trip.. I think it's up to $35 for an aspirin. But.. I suppose as long as the baby and Mom come out well and happy, you would pay anything ! Good luck to all of you!
